ReplyDeleteGuess I'm going to be the only jerk here. In my home state of PA, an ID costs $13.50. I spent nearly $500 dollars on passports (that's not counting the costs for the documentation I needed) for my family to visit Canada. I don't feel bad for those that don't have an ID. Doesn't Canada already have voter ID laws in place?
ReplyDeleteshawmutt, if you were retired, living off government benefits, would you pay that $13.50, or $27 for a couple, just to vote?
ReplyDeleteWe (in Canada) already have Medicare cards, they are accepted as ID.
ReplyDeleteActually, I looked up the gov site. IDs in PA are being offered free of charge for voting purposes.
ReplyDeleteI support requiring using some sort of ID at a poll booth, but the fact that student IDs, Social Security, and veteran's cards aren't accepted smells awfully fishy to me.
ReplyDeleteShow me all of these people who don't have ID. I call bull. Plus, old people are heavily Republican.
ReplyDeleteThey might have ID in the form of Social Security cards, right? But not necessarily drivers licenses. The point is not just that they are required to show ID, but that the forms of ID that are accepted are extremely limited, and also exclude forms of ID likely to be held by people who might vote for Obama.
DeleteAlso, not all old people vote Repub. A lot of retirees vote to protect Medicare,e tc.
