Welcome Livin' La Vida Low-Carb'ers

I want to welcome the folks arriving from the Jimmy Moore's Livin' La Vida Low Carb blog!

While not a true low-carb'er, I'm a Canadian family doctor with a focus in obesity medicine and my blog Weighty Matters tries to look at obesity, the media and nutrition from what I feel to be a common sense, realistic and hopefully (at least sometimes) humourous manner.

Enjoy yourselves, poke around and hope to see you again soon.

Best regards,

  1. is strange that Jimmy is linking to Weighty Matters and referring to it as a new "amazing low carb blog".

Firstly, to my knowledge, Dr. Freedhoff has not even passingly supported "low carbing" on his blog, nevermind promoted it as a lifestyle. The only reference to low carb diets I have seen on Weighty Matters was mention of the CBC documentary "my big fat diet" which Dr. Freedhoff did not comment on, even though the documentary showed the positive results of "low carbing" among a west coast community.

Secondly, I have read both Weighty Matters and Livin La Vida Low Carb, and, actually, they seem to disagree more than agree. Dr. Freedhoff seems to take the "conventional" approach to nutrition (i.e saturated fat is "bad"; and it's calories that matter, not carbs), whereas Jimmy, of course, takes more the "radical" approach that says that carbs are the problem and that saturated fat is not "bad" when carbs are not present.

Anyway, I just think it is odd since these two do not appear to really agree on much.

  2. Well, jc, I invite you to listen to my podcast show with Dr. Freedhoff coming up next week to hear for yourself where we DO agree. THANKS for sharing your concerns, but we're definitely not on opposite ends of the spectrum in our beliefs.

  3. Thanks Jimmy - I will definitely look forward hearing Dr. Freedhoff's positive view of reduced carbohydrate diets as I have not yet heard him express that view.
