Saturday Stories: Charlatans, Fitness Lies and Type 2 Diabetes Vlogs

For those looking to supplement their income Edzard Ernst has some instructions on how to become a charlatan.

A fun piece from Men's Journal to start off the New Year - everything you think you know about fitness is a lie.

The Calgary Herald covers the story of a former Coca-Cola employee's video blogging of the battle he ultimately lost with type 2 diabetes.

  1. Thanks so much for those links!

The first is amusing, but hardly worth reading compared with the second and third. They have the ability to change your life, especially the second (since the sugary drinks mentioned in the third are so obviously unhealthy that the article only painfully reinforces, it does not teach.)

But the second article is a real gem. I am getting ready to re-enter the gym after a very bad summer knocked me completely off my momentum. And I am now going to change my approach entirely. This was the information I have been lusting for. The book referenced in that article is excellent and eye-opening and less than 10 bucks in the Kindle store :-)

    So thanks again!

I must echo Kim Letkeman's thanks for those three links and most especially that second link, the one on fitness training from Men's Journal. It is a priceless treasure for me. This self-coaching stuff is right up my alley.

Being a fanatical swimmer (I train at least one hour every single day and been doing so since GOK when), for far too long I've given short shrift to the "weights/gym" aspect of staying healthy. But no more: this particular article has definitely been a lifestyle-changer for me even at my age, which is 73. My next stop, after writing this note, is Amazon to download Mark Rippetoe's Starting Strength: Basic Barbell Training to my Kindle/iPad. Thank you very kindly, Kim, for your comments. I can hardly wait to get started.

Yoni, you say "fun piece" to the second article you posted. What are your thoughts about this article?
