Krispy Kreme's Whole Wheat Doughnuts

Whole wheat and 30 Calories less does not make a deep fried and smothered in sugar doughnut much healthier.

Of course Stan Parker, Senior Vice President of Marketing for Krispy Kreme disagrees as he quobeses in the press release,

"This sweet treat is an alternative for health conscious consumers with the benefits of 100% whole wheat and only 180 calories"
My take?

Whole wheat doughnuts are to whole grains what onion rings and zucchini sticks are to vegetables.

  1. It there something wrong with me when every Frankenfood you post intrigues me? I would try that pizza - once. As for this donut, I am eager to try it!

Before you became my guru, I believed that a calorie was a calorie regardless of where I got it from. I would have a single KK donut for breakfast, and think that I was ahead of the game because instead of a 350 calorie Tim Hortons's bagel, I was having a 200 calorie donut.

What I failed to understand then was that the bagel would fill me up for several hours while the donut would leave me hungry 15 minutes later, the difference being the fiber content. If this whole wheat donut has more fiber than it's white predecessor, then I am all for it.

The danger, of course, is that people will think that because they are "good" for you, you can have 2 or 3! When my calorie ignorant father-in-law first discovered the KK donut, he had one in line, one in the car, and two more at home when he walked into the house before we stopped him!
