I want to welcome the folks arriving from the Google Blogs of Note blog!
I'm a Canadian family doctor with a focus in obesity medicine and my blog Weighty Matters tries to look at obesity, the media and nutrition from what I feel to be a common sense, realistic and hopefully at least sometimes, a humourous manner.
Enjoy yourselves, poke around and hope to see you again soon.
Best regards,
Yoni

I'm in the US, but my favorite doctor - or how I miss him - was Canadian.
ReplyDeleteHis answer to everything was:
1. Eat more yogurt
2. Drink more water
3. Go take a brisk walk
I've bookmarked you - thanks for writing!
You have great information and humor- can't wait to read more of your posts! This should be required reading- there are so many people in the dark. Thanks!
ReplyDeletereally interesting stuff - congrats on 'blogs of note' x
ReplyDeleteCONGRATULATIONS, Google loves you!
ReplyDeleteFrom Nashville, José Luis Ávila Herrera.
I´ll will right back!
Saw you on Blogs of Note. Congratulations! I love your blog. I have struggled with weight since I had my daughter 23 years ago and have recently started trying to loose again. I have linked to you on my weight loss blog! Come visit me sometime.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on being the blog-o-note!
ReplyDeleteI love your blog and your attitude. I am steadily losing weight and I have found that they only method that works for me is smaller portions, served on smaller plates and dishing it up in the kitchen rather than serving family style.Plus I also cook from scratch and we are eating more whole grains.
ReplyDeleteI am looking for exercise opportunities around the house too.
regards,
Theresa
Very good blog!
ReplyDeleteI'm currently trying to loose weight. Are these so-called slimming pliis or herbal remedies any good?
ReplyDeleteCongrats on becoming a Google Blog of Note! I hope that brings a larger audience to your interesting (and often true) opinions.
ReplyDeleteHi Matthew and thanks to everyone for your kind words.
ReplyDeleteTo answer your question Matthew let me put it this way.
I run a weight loss practice that I own and I don't sell a thing.
While I can't comment on the efficacy of all herbal supplements, if any of them had been proven to be both safe and effective, your doctor would prescribe them and the world would be skinny.
Cheers,
Yoni
Hello,
ReplyDeleteI would just like to say congratulations for making it to the top of the Blogs of note page. You have great information. You know, food everywhere has so much Junk in it, that it is unbelievable. From fast food resturants to supermarkets. Oh, well, keep fighting the good fight.
interesting blog, i have several medical problems(see blog) mostly related to weight. Nice blog!
ReplyDeleteI really like your blog, I subscribed and I look forward to digging deeper into it!

Interesting blog...
ReplyDeleteI lost over 200 pounds naturally (exercise and nutritious eating) and have maintained the loss for 2 1/2 years now. It's very hard work.
Your site is a good read and informative - I'm adding it to my bookmarked blogs, but it's interesting that the emphasis seems only to be on big food distributors. I agree they're a huge contributor to the problem (pun intended) but only one component.
For us, the super-obese (Yes, I still include myself amongst us even though I am at a fairly normal size), the issue is so much more than just eating. We also have to deal with serious and chronic emotional issues that have kept us from learning what we needed to know.
Curious? My weight loss journey pics are at http://weightloss.laurarsilverman.com . Yes, I am the real deal and sadly, despite TV sound byte claims that "If I can do it anyone can", this journey is not for the faint-of-heart. If I hadn't had a great team who has been infinately supportive of me (both famous but equally as important, not-famous theraputic resources), I would never have made it to where I am and certainly would never have stayed within a stone's throw of my target weight.
very good :) thera are so many possibilities :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on being a blog of note - I left you a voicemail message.
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited blogger chose your blog. I'm enjoying the posts on your blog.
ReplyDeleteHello?
ReplyDeleteHi Yoni, Obesity is becoming a major concern down here in New Zealand. Usually attributed to 'junk-food' of course, but more correctly to poor diet and lack of exercise. 'city girl' says it well. Top blog--well done.
ReplyDeleteLove your blog! Obesity has become one of the biggest problems throughout people and it's majorly in the rise among young teens. It's usually about the unhealthy choices that we make which include fast food and junk food. We live in a fast paced world and convenience usually means unhealthy choices.
ReplyDeleteYou have a great blog and I'm sure your gonna help a lot of people. Look forward to reading many more posts from you.
Sincerely,
Jamie Boyle
You have a good sentiment. The league of common sense (my blog) says it is easy to loose weight. take out more than you put in. simple maths.
ReplyDeleteI know the variable (x and Y ) are there but the maths works.
well done to get Blogs of note.
Kerry.
Greta blog. I'm adding you to my list of "Worth Exploring!"
ReplyDeletecongratulations for being selected in blogs of note
ReplyDeletecongratulations sir...
ReplyDeleteyou are best doctor
I have just entered your site from 'blogs of note' and intend to visit your site regularly. Obesity is quite an issue in Malta - we are apparently the country with the second highest number of obese children in the world. That may sound strange, as the mediterranean area generally has a healthy diet, but we do love our Maltese bread (very famous) and traditional Maltese pastries. Looking forward to hearing from you soon
ReplyDeleteWhat do we americans do about the fat cats in washington?
ReplyDeletei blog on the cretan (mediterranean) diet, it's good to see somebody's doing something about obesity, we discussed this in the classroom yesterday with my students, only one child in the ten said that she enjoyed vegetables as a snack, and she was the only one whose parents refuse to cook different meals for different members of the family if they are fussy eaters. no such thing as common sense these days in most households...
ReplyDeleteexcellent blog

ReplyDeleteGreat information and with an actual scientific basis, amazing in this seeming anti-intellectual age. I am very impressed with your blog and the information it contains. I was saddened to see that you are in Ottawa and not closer to me in Waterloo (could you move, LOL). Is there anything similar to your practice in southern Ontario? Thanks!
